Kuala Lumpur, 18 July 2022 – Gibraltar BSN Life Berhad recently sponsored fruit trees for the creation of an orchard on the grounds of Abdullah Hukum Apartment.

Gibraltar BSN’s latest initiative under its 2022 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme saw the company contributing 21 fruit trees, including mangoes, coconuts, rambutans and jackfruits during the tree planting ceremony. Planted around the compound of the Abdullah Hukum Apartment, the fruits will be shared with the residents once the trees start to bear fruits.

Speaking about the programme, Lee Kok Wah, Chief Executive Officer of Gibraltar BSN said, “Today’s fruit tree planting initiative is our way of supporting the 100 Million Tree-Planting Campaign 2020-2025 initiated by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources Malaysia.  It fits very well with our We Protect Dreams Go Green programme with the goal of reducing our carbon footprint. The trees from the orchard contribute towards this objective as just one mature tree can absorb around 21kgs worth of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere in just one year[1].”

Abdullah Hukum Apartment houses mainly B40 residents and have been a recipient of the life insurer’s CSR programme since 2019. With the goal of uplifting the community, notable CSR initiatives include refurbishment of their children’s playground, face masks and food pack donations during the pandemic, book contributions to the kindergarten at the apartment and bubur lambuk sponsorships during the month of Ramadan.

Kok Wah added, “Besides the residents enjoying the fruits later, these trees will eventually provide shade and relief from the heat of the sun as they grow and mature. We have also been encouraging our employees to sow the seeds of positive change by conducting a tree planting workshop with Free Tree Society in Bangsar and various other go green initiatives. No matter how small, we are proud to contribute to the greening of Malaysia, as even small steps such as today’s fruit tree planting are strides in the right direction.”

Gibraltar BSN’s CSR We Protect Dreams programme aims to make a positive impact in the communities where they operate in. Previously, the life insurer also donated 1,000 fabric face masks and 250 school uniforms to SK Bukit Pantai located in Bangsar.
